Serbia is the birthplace of great athletes like Novak Djokovic, of renowned artists such as Marina Abramovic, scientific geniuses like Nikola Tesla and even a Nobel Prize winner as Ivo Andric but also talented designers a little less known. I sometimes wonder how such a small country (by area and population, only 7 million inhabitants) can cause such great talents. I was able to attend the 34th Belgrade Fashion Week, and despite the lack of resources, I saw collections showing a hollowing expertise and style. I especially enjoyed Mirjana Sarac. Her work mixes perfectly the Serbian tradition and modernity in the close Martin Margiela mind: include uniform cetnik deal in over-size, knitwear grandmothers revisited and ribs mesh for urban warriors.
