The Modern and Contemporary art Museum of Saint Etienne presents the work of Lee Bul. The exhibition puts the prolific work of one of the most important figure of the contemporary Korean art scene. In the main room, visitors are able to enter in six monumental architectural installations recently produced by the artist from composite materials. Nearby, several large series of graphic artworks mostly executed in the mid-1990 are displayed; a series of 136 drawings and paintings taken from the workshop and created between 2004 and 2011, which is an opportunity to discover the multiple aspects of the birth of Lee Bul’s dreamlike world. An ensemble of a dozen acrylic and India ink paintings are also shown. It was a real discovery for me and I admit I loved the work of Lee Bul. I had the impression of being a child discovering each installations. Her works can be understood at different levels. They are both poetic, playful and incredibly deep.
